 Investment Approach

DISCRETIONARY PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT

We offer portfolio management on a discretionary basis, which provides clients freedom from the responsibility of asset management.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our investment philosophy is contrarian. We buy when the crowd is negative and try to sell into bouts of excessive optimism, believing that you have to act differently to achieve above-average results. We are value investors who like highly profitable companies with good growth potential and recognize that the best prices are often realized by buying companies that are experiencing short-term fundamental weakness.

Rather than asking, “Is now a good time to be in the stock market?” we ponder the right amount of money to commit to equities over the long term. The answer will depend on your return objectives and individual risk tolerance, and it should not vary with the day-to-day movement of the market.

OUR STRATEGY

We compound wealth by owning high-quality businesses over the long term. Because stocks represent ownership in a business, we think like business owners, and recommend shares in businesses that we would like to own ourselves. We don’t spend a lot of time worrying about short-term performance, but instead focus on where a company will be in three to five years.

There is no one-size-fits-all portfolio for any of our clients; instead we apply our discipline to achieve a great, customized result for every individual. As the adage goes, the only constant in life is change.

We anticipate there will always be changes to both your lifestyle and capital markets, and we use a lifecycle approach to make sure we consistently meet your needs in the context of the investment landscape. This is where we do our best work.
