A Client-Focused Approach

Parveen Walia is a trusted and accomplished Investment Advisor with over 20 years of experience in the industry. As a Portfolio Manager at Odlum Brown’s Langley branch, she uses a comprehensive process, working in unison with other professionals to ensure her clients maximize their financial success.

Parveen takes a client-focused approach, with a consistent commitment to acting in her clients’ best interests. Her philosophy encompasses three key pillars: clients first, custom-tailored service and results.

Never a proponent of a “one-size-fits-all” portfolio strategy, she strives to develop a deep understanding of a client’s situation, providing solutions tailored to achieve their individual financial goals.

Background

Prior to joining Odlum Brown in 2018, Parveen was a key member of the private wealth management divisions of chartered banks for 18 years, and provided holistic financial planning and investment advice to high-net-worth individuals and business owners.

Since 2013, Parveen has held the highest distinction in the investment management profession — the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations.

Parveen is a first-generation Canadian, having moved here when she was just eight years old. She considers Canada to be the best country in the world, and understands the challenges of moving halfway across the world to a new country with a totally different culture and perhaps a new language. Those challenges and experiences have helped to forge her into the disciplined, goal-oriented individual she is today.

Community Involvement

Parveen is active in the local community and has a passion for giving back. She served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Women in Finance (AWF) for six years, including a term as President from 2019 to 2021. Currently a member of the AWF Advisory Council, she is also a key sponsor of their annual PEAK Awards. The PEAK Awards recognize exceptional women who work in the field of finance, while simultaneously raising money for scholarships to aid women who are studying for a career in finance.

In addition, Parveen volunteers with CFA Society Vancouver, working with their University Outreach committee. In the past, she volunteered for six years with JA British Columbia (JABC). By facilitating a variety of JABC programs, including Dollars with Sense, and Economics for Success, she has helped hundreds of students in the Fraser Valley area develop their financial literacy skills. In 2020, she received the 2020 JABC Exceptional Alumni Award for her contribution within the organization.

Outside of Work

Spending time with friends and family is what Parveen loves the most. She also loves the outdoors in the Fraser Valley, which she feels is her ideal location. Being a seasoned globetrotter, she believes that travel is the “great equalizer.” Says Parveen, “There’s something special about seeing a new place, experiencing a different culture and being exposed to different ideas; it makes you realize that people are the same everywhere, regardless of religion or ethnicity.”
