Ian Robertson

Ian Robertson, CFA, MBA, MA
Vice President, Director, Portfolio Manager

Ian is a Vice President, Director, Portfolio Manager and member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He is a regular speaker and writer on investment issues.

Ian and his wife enjoy gardening, reading and travel, as well as spending time with their three adult children. Ian is also a nationally ranked masters swimmer.

Ian holds the CFA designation, which focuses on global investment knowledge, professional standards and ethics, as well as the Responsible Investment Advisor Certification (RIAC), which focuses on the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in the selection and management of investments. Combining his strong interest in the impact of ESG on corporate strategy and valuation, and his commitment to providing clients with leading-edge investment insight, Ian is pursuing his DPhil (PhD) in responsible investment on a part-time basis at the University of Oxford.

Prior to joining Odlum Brown in 1997, Ian spent five years with the federal government, where he held several positions with a financial or economic focus – including postings in Ottawa with the Department of Finance and the Department of Foreign Affairs. + Learn More

Sarah MooneySarah Mooney, BA, MBA
Investment Associate

Prior to joining the Robertson Investment Group, Sarah worked in Odlum Brown’s Compliance department while completing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at UBC. She has since obtained a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) from SFU, a Professional Certification in Sustainable Investment (SIPC) from Concordia University and the Responsible Investment Advisor Certification (RIAC). Sarah completed the MBA program at SFU in 2019.

Sarah has over a decade of experience with the team, and even longer with Odlum Brown. She is a key resource in the day-to-day operations of our business who is responsible for account and securities processing. She also coordinates efforts between lawyers and accountants to facilitate the steps involved with estate-related matters.

Sarah’s love of nature has led her to hike and run many of the trails in and around BC. In fact, the landscape and scenery on our pages feature some of her photography.

Karim AllibhaiKarim Allibhai, CPA, CA, CFA, MBA
Portfolio Manager

Karim is a Portfolio Manager with the Robertson Investment Group (RI Group) at Odlum Brown. The RI Group offers personalized investment portfolios under a responsible investment mandate. The seamless integration of investment management and financial planning has helped the team’s clients protect and grow their wealth for generations.

Karim developed his multi-faceted business acumen over 16 years of tax experience. This included his time with both a mid-sized accounting firm and a "big four" accounting firm, during which he achieved his Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) designation; his experience completing his MBA (Dean's Honour List) at the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario; and several years in the real estate sector. Karim holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and the Responsible Investment Professional Certification (RIPC).

Karim has volunteered with CFA Society Vancouver since 2019, and he joined CFA Society Vancouver’s Board of Directors in 2021. He is also a member of CFA Institute's Practice Analysis Working Group and part of the CFA Examination Grading Program. He has volunteered with the University Outreach Committee for two years, where he was instrumental in the development of the committee structure. In July 2023, Karim was elected Vice President of CFA Society Vancouver. He believes in giving back to his community and is currently a mentor with the SFU SIAS fund and volunteers with SFU Beedie School of Business by conducting mock interviews for SFU students.

As a proud parent of two daughters, there’s never a dull moment at the Allibhai household.

Paul Sahota

Paul Sahota, CPA, CGA, CFP®, CIM®, FCSI®
Associate Portfolio Manager, Financial Planner

As a Financial Planner, Paul facilitates the assembly and delivery of our financial plans. Paul utilizes a needs-based approach and works closely with clients to identify their goals and objectives in order to build a plan that meets their needs. Working with the support of a client’s tax and legal advisor, Paul delivers a plan that addresses retirement, estate and tax efficiency, which also encompasses cash flow management, risk management and business planning matters.

Paul’s industry experience spans over 10 years, and he has worked for some of the largest financial institutions in Canada in senior advisory roles.

Paul is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® who holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree. He is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia, as well as a member of Financial Planning Canada. In 2020, he became a Fellow of CSI (FCSI®), which is the Canadian Securities Institute’s highest level of certification and an honour in the Canadian financial services industry. Paul’s love of soccer opened many avenues for him early in life. Through his experiences as Captain of the BC team and playing for the Canadian men’s national soccer team, he learned the discipline and drive it takes to succeed. It also allowed him to tour Europe and South America to broaden his horizons with a more global perspective. He remains actively involved in the community as a volunteer for CPA BC, where he has been invited as a Capstone Panelist in their Professional Education Program.
