Meet Our Team

W. Bruce A. McFarlane
Vice President, Director, Portfolio Manager, Investment Advisor

Telephone: (250) 952-7778 |

Bruce began his career in the financial industry in 1967 with the Royal Trust Co. After nine years, he left his position as Senior Trust Officer to join Odlum Brown Limited as an Investment Advisor. His hard-earned success as an Investment Advisor led to his appointment as Branch Manager of the Victoria office in 1982. He is currently a Director, Vice President and Portfolio Manager.

Bruce continues to remain active within the community. His interest in rugby led him to be a member and former director of the James Bay Athletic Association and a past President of the Canadian Rugby Foundation. As the current president of the Charlton L. Smith Charitable Foundation and a past board member of the Queen Alexandra Hospital Society, The Salvation Army Advisory Committee and the Lodge at Broadmead, Bruce proudly dedicates his time and financial support to charitable endeavours in the Greater Victoria Region. He is also a longtime supporter of Plan Canada, in particular the Because I am a Girl initiative. He has been a key donor for multiple projects including a water well and pipeline in North Sudan, a high school in Cambodia, an ambulance and clinic in Nigeria and school lavatories in Kenya. If you have interest in charitable endeavours, Bruce would be pleased to discuss any of his experiences with you.

Bruce remains physically active by playing golf at the Victoria Golf Course, alpine skiing in the winter months, kayaking, lawn bowling and embarking on outdoor adventures with his two sons, Cameron and Graham.

Bruce is committed to his clients’ financial well-being and appreciates their loyalty. He looks forward to maintaining these strong relationships and providing the high standard of service his clients deserve.

Heather E. Love, B.A. (Economics), CFA
Associate Portfolio Manager, Investment Advisor
Telephone: (250) 952-7766 |

Heather joined the Odlum Brown Victoria office in 2014, quickly rising to the positions of Associate Portfolio Manager and Investment Advisor while working alongside Bruce. With a B.A. in Economics from the University of Victoria, along with a Certificate in Professional Accounting from Camosun College, Heather’s educational pursuits have primed her perfectly for a career in the investment industry. Heather also holds the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Heather is well versed in investment management strategies and shares Bruce’s commitment to discipline and patience. Heather’s strong belief in long-term planning, combined with Bruce’s experience, has influenced their collaborative business style. At Odlum Brown, Heather has the capacity to create a unique solution for every client and address each individual’s needs. She approaches investment planning from a holistic standpoint, incorporating all stakeholders to ensure that her clients receive well-rounded advice for the benefit of their overall financial picture, not only for their current investment portfolio. This often means turning to Odlum Brown Financial Services Limited* to assist with financial planning, including tax and estate planning. In this way, Heather can help clients reach their goals in both working life and retired life, while guiding them through every transition in between.

Outside of work, Heather stays active within the community. She holds committee positions with the BC Cancer Foundation’s signature fundraiser “Jingle Mingle,” is the Chair of the CFA Forecast Dinner for the CFA Society of Victoria and is the Secretary for the Vancouver Island Hunter Jumper Association. Heather maintains a busy schedule with her equestrian pursuits and spends much of her free time riding and competing with her horse, Carma.

Annie EwartAnnie M. Ewart

Investment Assistant
Telephone:  (250) 952-7771 |

Annie is the newest member of our team, joining Odlum Brown in June of 2019. She supports Bruce and Heather with administrative needs, such as regular documentation, scheduling and transfers of cash and securities, and registered plan administration, as well as client experience and marketing as their business grows. Annie enjoys learning as much as she can about the business and continuing her education through the firm.

Annie is a former national team road cyclist who competed at the top global level of women’s cycling, including representing Canada at the Women’s Tour de France. When her cycling career ended unexpectedly due to a heart injury, she returned to further education to complete a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Entrepreneurial Management.

When she’s not in the office, Annie makes a difference through volunteer activities, sharing her knowledge and experience from high-performance sport with young women and developing athletes. Currently she supports Global Relay’s Bridge the Gap Fund as a mentor for up-and-coming Canadian cyclists, and she recently volunteered in Jamaica for their early childhood development program. She is also a part of the Victoria Military Sports Society that in 2019 proposed a bid for Greater Victoria to host the 2022 Invictus Games.
